Portia Boakye has earned a nomination for the 2026 CAF Women’s Player of the Year award, giving Ghana representation among Africa’s leading female footballers.

The Black Queens captain is among 10 players shortlisted for the honour following the announcement of nominees by CAF on Tuesday.

Black Queens captain Portia Boakye has been nominated for the 2026 CAF Women’s Player of the Year award following her impressive performances for Ghana over the past year.

The experienced defender is among 10 players shortlisted for the prestigious individual honour, making her Ghana’s representative in the category at this year’s awards.

Boakye’s nomination comes after her contribution to Ghana’s campaign at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, where the Black Queens reached the quarter-finals.

The captain featured in five matches at the tournament and provided one assist, playing an important role in Ghana’s return to the continental competition and their progress into the knockout stage.

She faces competition from some of Africa’s leading footballers, including Zambia’s Barbra Banda, Malawi’s Tabitha and Temwa Chawinga, South Africa’s Thembi Kgatlana and Morocco’s Hanane Aït El Haj.

Cameroon have three representatives on the shortlist, with Marie Ngah Manga, Michaely Bihina and Monique Ngock all earning nominations, while Algeria’s Marine Dafeur completes the list alongside Boakye and the other contenders.

Ghana have also received recognition in other women’s categories, with goalkeeper Cynthia Konlan nominated for Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year and the Black Queens shortlisted for Women’s National Team of the Year.

The 2026 CAF Awards ceremony is scheduled for December 7 in Lagos, Nigeria, where the continent’s outstanding performers will be honoured.
