The National Petroleum Authority (NPA) has donated essential supplies to the Accra Psychiatric Hospital as part of activities marking Father’s Day and Men’s Mental Health Awareness Month.

The donation, made on Saturday, 20 June 2026, formed part of the Authority’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme aimed at improving patient care and supporting efforts to raise awareness of men’s mental wellbeing.

Items presented to the hospital included mattresses, toiletries, detergents, food items and other essential supplies to support its daily operations.

Speaking during the presentation, the Head of Corporate Social Responsibility at the NPA, Maxwell Ampadu, said the initiative reflects the Authority’s commitment to compassion, dignity and social support for vulnerable groups beyond its regulatory mandate in the downstream petroleum sector.

According to him, the observance of Father’s Day and Men’s Mental Health Awareness Month in June presents an opportunity to draw attention to the importance of emotional wellbeing among men.

He encouraged men to speak openly about their challenges and seek professional support when necessary, stressing that mental health should be treated with the same seriousness as physical health.

Responding on behalf of the hospital, Senior Nurse Vida Tetteh explained that mental health conditions can be caused by a combination of factors, including genetic predisposition, family history, stress, substance abuse, infections and poor nutrition.

She noted that many patients are brought to the facility from the streets or abandoned by relatives, a situation that continues to place considerable pressure on the hospital’s resources and underscores the need for stronger community support systems.

Ms Tetteh further urged the public to manage stress effectively, seek early professional care and show empathy towards persons living with mental health conditions rather than stigmatising them.

She expressed gratitude to the NPA for the donation, stating that the items would enhance patient care and help the hospital deliver quality mental health services.

The donation forms part of the NPA’s broader commitment to supporting vulnerable communities and promoting social welfare across the country.
