A ten (10) day volunteer mission is currently underway at Anloga in the Anloga District of the Volta Region. It is being led by students and staff from the US based Imhotep School, a group of African Americans dedicated to giving back to their ancestral homeland.

Their efforts, now in their third year, are focused on supporting local communities through education, healthcare, infrastructure provision and technology transfer and training.

Operating in partnership with the Ghanaian Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), ‘The Young Shall Grow International’, led by its Director, Mr. Siva Vordzorgbe, and in collaboration with the African Adventures, UK, the team has set up its base at the Abutia Rhema Basic School at Woe-Abutia in the Anloga District. Their activities include teaching students, technology and sustainable agriculture, conducting health screenings at the Tegbi Clinic in addition to providing essential medical supplies. They have also carried out a water filtration project at the Benadzi community, also within the Anloga district.

The government’s appreciation for the initiative was underscored by a visit to the school by a high-powered delegation. The Volta Regional Minister, Hon. James Gunu, accompanied by the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Anloga, Hon. Sandra Seyram Kpedor and the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Ketu South, Hon. Nicholas Kwabla Worclachie, toured the facility. Also present was the acting Volta Regional Director of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), Mr. Paschal Agbagba.

During their visit, the dignitaries observed students being taken through practical science and technology demonstrations, including projects that teach how to grow greens and innovative toothbrush making exercises.

James Gunu commended the team for their dedication, noting that it is only a critical mind that can resolve critical problems.

The mission is expected to leave behind a legacy of improved infrastructure, knowledge transfer and a strengthened bond between the diaspora and the Volta Region.
