A delegation from Securities and Exchange Commission Ghana led by Deputy Director-General Mensah Thompson has held talks with Ghana’s Ambassador to the United States, Victor Emmanuel Smith, aimed at attracting diaspora and foreign investments into Ghana’s capital market.

The meeting centred on Ghana’s improving macroeconomic conditions, investment prospects on the Ghana Stock Exchange and efforts to strengthen participation in the country’s securities market.

During the engagement, Mr Thompson touted the Ghana Stock Exchange as one of Africa’s top-performing bourses, citing its strong performance over the past year.

According to him, the local stock market emerged as the best-performing exchange on the continent in 2024 and has maintained that momentum into the first quarter of 2026.

He attributed the development to improving economic stability, easing inflation and falling interest rates, which he said have created attractive opportunities for investors seeking better returns through equities and other securities.

“This is the best time to invest in Ghana, where investors can secure stronger returns through the capital markets, stock exchange and other securities,” he stated.

Ambassador Victor Emmanuel Smith welcomed the SEC delegation and pledged support for initiatives aimed at positioning Ghana as a preferred investment destination.

He emphasised the importance of engaging Ghanaian professionals and wealthy investors abroad to support economic growth and job creation back home.

According to the Ambassador, strengthening investment ties with the diaspora could also help address rising youth migration by creating opportunities locally.

“We can partner with some of these American big pockets and take advantage of the opportunities we are offering back home,” he noted.

Mr Smith further disclosed that the embassy, in collaboration with the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre, is organising business forums and investor engagements to market Ghana’s economic potential and investment incentives to foreign partners.

He added that encouraging Ghanaians living abroad to invest and contribute to national development remains a major priority for the mission.

The SEC delegation also discussed increasing interest among Ghanaians in the diaspora in government-backed investment schemes and securities.

Head of International Relations at the SEC, Dorothy Yeboah-Asiamah, urged prospective investors abroad to use only licensed and regulated investment platforms to avoid fraud and protect their investments.

“We have licensed brokers and investment schemes that allow people abroad to safely invest in securities in Ghana, and we want more members of the diaspora to take advantage of these opportunities,” she said.

Other members of the delegation included Peter McNamara, Manager of Broker Dealers and Advisers Emmanuel Darko, Head of Fintech and Innovation Richard Dusi and Marilyn Lamiokor-Mills from the Board Secretariat.
