The Ministry of the Interior has suspended the operating licence of Kantanka Security Services Limited with immediate effect following allegations that personnel of the company used unprescribed uniforms and were found in possession of firearms and ammunition while providing private security services at Kwabenya in Accra.

The decision, announced in a statement signed by the Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, follows an incident that reportedly occurred on Sunday, 21 June 2026.

According to the Ministry, preliminary investigations point to possible violations of the Police Service (Private Security Organisations) Regulations, 1992 (L.I. 1571), which governs the activities of private security companies in Ghana.

The statement noted that the alleged use of unapproved uniforms, security accoutrements and the unauthorised possession and use of firearms by private security personnel constitute serious breaches of the law with significant implications for public safety and national security.

“As a result, the Ministry has directed the company to immediately cease all operations forthwith pending the conclusion of investigations into the matter,” the statement said.

The Ministry further advised public and private institutions to suspend all business engagements with Kantanka Security Services Limited until investigations are completed and further directives are issued.

It also directed the company to cooperate fully with the Ghana Police Service by providing all necessary information to facilitate a comprehensive investigation into the matter.

The Interior Ministry assured the public that the suspension is an administrative measure aimed at protecting public safety while investigations continue.

It stressed that appropriate sanctions would be imposed should the investigations establish any breaches of the law governing private security operations in the country.

The Ministry also called on members of the public to report any unlawful activities involving private security organisations and their personnel to the nearest police station.

Additionally, all licensed private security organisations were reminded to comply strictly with the public notice on uniform regulations issued by the Ghana Police Service on 5 February 2026.

The statement reiterated government’s commitment to ensuring that private security companies operate within the framework of the law and warned that authorities would not hesitate to take action against any organisation found to have violated regulatory requirements.

The suspension of Kantanka Security Services Limited remains in force pending the outcome of investigations being conducted by the Ghana Police Service.
