Police in the Upper East Region have arrested four men suspected of carrying out a series of robberies in and around Bolgatanga.

The suspects were picked up on 5 May 2026 following what officers described as an intelligence-led operation.

They have been identified as Abdulai Ibrahim, Amadu Rahman, Amadu Sulemana, also known as Saaga, and Adu Yakubu.

According to police, the group assembled a day earlier at Gbane, a mining community in the Talensi District, after travelling from Yagaba and Fumbisi. Investigators believe the suspects moved into the area to carry out robbery operations during which four motorbikes and several mobile phones were stolen.

During interrogation, the suspects reportedly admitted to multiple attacks within the Talensi District, including along the Yagaba–Fumbisi road and the Yagaba–Nanguruma road in the North East Region.

Police further indicated that the suspects confessed to their involvement in a robbery at the Vikandi Phone Shop in Bolgatanga in March 2025. The incident, which gained traction on social media, showed armed men wielding an assault rifle.

Authorities say the suspects also linked themselves to repeated robberies at mining sites in Gbane, where quantities of gold and cash were stolen.

Police disclosed that the suspects later led officers to a farm near Biung, close to Gbane, where a weapon had been concealed. A search of the area led to the retrieval of an AK-47 rifle and 87 rounds of ammunition hidden in a fertiliser sack.

During the operation, Amadu Rahman reportedly collapsed. He was rushed to the Bolgatanga Regional Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival. His body has since been deposited at the morgue pending preservation and autopsy.

The three remaining suspects are currently in police custody and are expected to be arraigned before court, while investigations continue.
