Raymond Asante scores but Patro Eisden fall short against Beerschot

Raymond Asante delivered a big moment for Patro Eisden but could not prevent a heartbreaking 3â€“2 extra-time defeat away to Beerschot in the Challenger Pro League promotion play-off semi-final.

The Ghanaian midfielder dragged his side back into the tie early in the second half with a well-taken equaliser.

Trailing 1â€“0 at the break after Brian Plat’s early penalty, Patro responded just three minutes after the restart. Asante arrived in the box to meet a low cross from Milan Robberechts and calmly slotted home for 1â€“1 in the 48th minute. When Radja Nainggolan then struck on 63 minutes to make it 2â€“1 to the visitors, the comeback looked on.

Beerschot, however, refused to fold. Ensar Brahic levelled in stoppage time to force extra time, before Genki Haraguchi’s 116th-minute winner ended Patro Eisden’s promotion dream. Despite the defeat, Asante’s performance was a major positive. The 21-year-old now has 10 appearances, 2 goals and 1 assist in the 2025/26 Belgian First Division B season, underlining his growing influence from midfield.
